If you’d rather go it on your own, there are many places to cast a line. Area rivers and streams include:

Toccoa River

  • stocked above Blue Ridge Dam every other week during trout season
  • broad river; great for fly fishermen

Shallowford Bridge | Aska Road, Blue Ridge

  • steel one-lane bridge over the Toccoa River
  • fishing under the bridge and on the dirt road that leads to the Benton MacKaye Trail
  • stocked in early November for catch-and-release fishing through mid-May

Tammen Park | Appalachian Hwy, Blue Ridge

  • Popular with fly fishermen
  • Ball fields, playground, and picnic areas

Horseshoe Bend Park | River Rd off Hwy 60, McCaysville

  • Great trout fishing on the Toccoa River
  • Playground, picnic pavilions, and restrooms

Rock Creek

  • Location of Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery

  • Large population of wild trout

Cooper’s Creek

  • Camping, hiking, and trout fishing
  • Stocked and wild trout in Cooper Creek and Mulky Creek

Noontootla Creek

  • trout over 16 inches can be kept
  • managed to simulate a natural stream with unharvested population of trout

Jacks & Conasauga Rivers

  • Inside Cohutta Wilderness area
  • Jacks River (open March – October); Conasauga River (open year-round)
