We’re approaching that time of the year again, when the silver bells ring and the hustle of bustle of the holidays begin. Luckily, in Blue Ridge and Ellijay, we’re on mountain time and like to enjoy this time of year without worrying about all of the hustle and bustle. You’ll want to come witness the season’s beauty as North Georgia truly transforms into a winter wonderland.

There is just something that warms the soul when you can cuddle up next to the fire on a cold winter night to drink hot cocoa and eggnog with the family while singing along to the Jingle Bell Rock, especially when surrounded by the sweet serenity of the North Georgia Mountains. But…if you think you’re not quite ready to put the tree up yet, we have the perfect winter activities that will get you in the mood for the holidays.

First, you’ll definitely want to check out “Hometown Christmas” in Downtown McCaysville on the first Saturday of December. Just head 10 miles north of Blue Ridge to McCaysville, a beautiful mountain town that sits on the Georgia/Tennessee boarder to take part in the Hometown Christmas celebration. The event will start with a parade, then Santa’s arrival, along with the season’s tradition of the lighting of the bridge. There will be food, refreshments and entertainment so come eat, drink and be merry!

Next, you’ll want to gather up the whole family and hop aboard the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway Christmas Express. Every weekend in December you and the family can come ride the holiday train and come say hello to Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and the elves! You can also gather around to listen to Christmas stories and sing carols, all while surrounded by the stunning scenery of Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Then, head about 30 minutes from Downtown Blue Ridge to see the a spectacular event that will be sure to please both your mountain spirit and your Christmas spirit alike. The Festival of Trees at the Every at the Ocoee Whitewater Center is an annual event in which local businesses, schools and other organizations decorate the forest trees for the holidays. Come out and see the unique decorations and have a hot cup of apple cider as you breathe in the crisp North Georgia mountain air.

Finally, once you’ve gone out and enjoyed all of the merriment that the holiday season brings, make your way back to the warmth of your Morning Breeze Cabin rental and get back to your cozy position nestled in by the fire, embrace your holiday spirit and let it thrive while you enjoy your stay in the mountains. There’s nothing quite like Christmas in Blue Ridge, and we’ve got everything you’ll need to make this Christmas one to remember.
