The spring season brings all the color back to the mountains, and as the days get longer, you will want to soak up as much of the breathtaking surroundings as possible! We have rounded up some important things to know and our favorite activities in North Georgia in April.

How to Plan Your Trip to North Georgia in April

What’s the Weather Like in North Georgia in April?

April has some of the best weather of the year! The highs in Ellijay average in the mid-70s, while the lows dip into the low 50s. You couldn’t ask for better weather to enjoy Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains! It’s the perfect time of year to get outside in nature, do some bird watching, fishing, or maybe you will be lucky enough to catch a sighting of a momma bear and her cubs!  The evening weather is perfect for sitting around the fire pit with friends or family and enjoying some good local wine or roasting s’mores over the open fire.

Go Hiking

With temperatures in the 70s during the day, it’s the ideal weather to tackle a rewarding hike. Our area is a haven for hikers with countless trails to choose from. We recommend exploring the Georgia portion of the Appalachian Trail, which starts at Springer Mountain just 20 minutes from several of our luxury cabin rentals. Some other great options for hiking are Amicalola Falls, Fort Mountain, Vogel State Park, and any other nearby state park. You will experience some of the most incredible views in all of North Georgia and get a great workout at the same time. You could also cross off a bucket list item and visit the highest point in Georgia, Brasstown Bald. Plus, getting up to the peak is completely accessible by car, so anyone can enjoy the unbelievable breathtaking views at the summit.

Learn What Moonshine and NASCAR Have in Common

Yeah, you read that right! About 35 minutes southeast of Ellijay is the town of Dawsonville. NASCAR originates from moonshiners in the Appalachian Mountains evading police with high-speed races in small, fast cars. Coincidentally, it makes perfect sense that Dawsonville Distillery and the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame are under the same roof at City Hall. Both offer insight into the sport’s history and how moonshine played a big role.

Attend One of April’s Many Events

From trout fishing to concerts, North Georgia events have a lot to offer! Because of the ideal weather in April, many of the area’s best annual events occur during this month.

The Blue Ridge Trout and Outdoor Adventure Festival is one of the most anticipated events of the year! Our county boasts 13 bodies of water designated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources as trout waters, and the event celebrates this natural wonder.

Here in North Georgia, we love rhododendrons so much that we host a festival to observe them blossom! Visit the Hamilton Gardens in Hiawassee any weekend from mid-April through mid-May for the Rhododendron Festival to enjoy the colorful flowers, live music, vendors, and more.

In April, the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds in Hiawassee host several events, including concerts by country music stars like Josh Turner and Scotty McCreery. Check out their schedule of events and catch an amazing concert right here in the Blue Ridge Mountains!
