What’s the Weather Like in North Georgia in March?

The weather is exceptionally mild in and around Ellijay, GA in March. Highs average in the mid-60s, with lows at night dipping in the mid-40s. It’s the perfect weather to get outside to do some hiking, fishing, or horseback riding. Take a leisurely stroll through downtown Blue Ridge or Ellijay, or maybe enjoy a delicious picnic lunch in one of the nearby state parks. Go Trout Fishing

March marks the start of the world-class trout fishing season in North Georgia. Fannin County was named the “Trout Capital of Georgia” by the state legislature, and it isn’t hard to see why. Our county boasts 13 bodies of water designated by the Georgia DNR as trout waters, including more than 550 miles of pristine streams that can be fished all year. In fact, trout season runs all the way through October!

Experience the Georgia Wine Highway

The Georgia Wine Highway is a month-long event that includes 41 wineries and eight tasting rooms across the state. The event typically runs the entire month of March with more than a dozen local wineries near Blue Ridge and Ellijay. You can purchase a passport for $75 from any participating business and receive an “Open Georgia Wine” collectors’ wine glass and either four tastings or one glass at the participating wineries you visit during that month. It’s the perfect excuse to try as many North Georgia wineries as possible!

Enjoy a Drive-in Movie

Many of the small towns in North Georgia seem to take you back in time, so it’s no surprise that three of the state’s remaining drive-in movie theaters are in our region. Whether you have the kids with you, a group of friends, or your sweetheart, the drive-in is a fun and unique experience that everyone will enjoy! Swan Drive-In is located in Blue Ridge and has featured blockbusters since the mid-1950s.
